Prologue

Denim stood standing against the wall on the side of her school as she waited for her boyfriend, Kuazie, to come and pick her up. It was the last day, summer had officially started and she couldn't be any happier. Two months of hot weather and chillin’ with her boyfriend. What more could she ask for?

Hearing loud music she turned just in time to see Kuazie pulling into the school parking lot. A smile spread across her face as she watched him get out of the car and walk up to her. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he pulled her in.

“What took you so long?” she asked. Inhaling his scent which was a mixture of his Burberry cologne and weed.

“I had some shit to handle. I'm sorry,” he answered looking at her with a smile. “Come on. I know you ready to go.”

Grabbing his hand Denim walked beside him towards the car. Opening the door, he watched as she got in before closing it and walking over to the driver’s side.

“What did you have to handle?”

“I’d rather not say.” he replied looking at her and licking his lips.

Nodding her head, Denim, understood certain things he couldn't discuss with her. “I'm hungry,” she informed him.

“What you want to eat?”

Putting her hand on her chin, Kuazie laughed at her. “Can we go to that diner you took me to before?” she asked smiling.

Kuazie had taken her once before and she couldn't get the taste of the food out of her mind. The food was amazing and every time she would ask to go back Kuazie would make an excuse.

Sighing Kuazie agreed. The last thing he wanted was to take Denim over to the East knowing he had beef but he couldn't find it in himself to tell her no. Besides it was early still, mid-afternoon.

He glanced at Denim every now and then as he drove and couldn't help the smile that graced his face. At seventeen, he never thought he'd be in love but Denim had his heart. Stopping at the light, he watched as she took pictures of herself and laughed.

“Eww, you think you cute. Always taking pictures,” he teased.

“I am cute.” Denim rolled her eyes with a smirk on her face. “Why is the ride so long? I'm ready to be there already, I'm hungry,” she complained.

“You do know your school is in Queens right?” He asked.

She smacked her teeth waving him off. Turning the music up that was still playing they rode through the streets blasting So Into You by Fabulous. Kuazie grabbed Denim’s hand as he drove and rapped to the song. To him, this song described how he felt about Denim to the T.

“It's no reason to have a friend or two now cause the kid’s ready to tell you how he feel in a few vows. Maybe I speak in general now, but girl I’ma do whatever just to keep a grin on you now.” He rapped looking at her causing her to blush.

Turning the music down Denim turned in her seat to face him. “Do you really care about me?” She asked.

Quickly glancing at her Kuazie replied. “I don't just care about you I love you. I tell you this all the time, ma.”

She couldn't help the blush that rose up from her cheeks as she turned her head. Kissing his cheek she told him she loved him too. The rest of the ride she watched him as he drove. Occasionally kissing his face as she held his hand playing with his fingers.

“Denim, girl calm down. The food ain't going no where.” He laughed as she raced out the car towards the door of the diner.

“But I'm hungry.” she whined.

Grabbing her by the waist Kuazie securely held onto her as he walked with her in front of him. “Baby, can we get a booth?”

“I don't care Denim.”

They sat in the booth with Kuazie watching the window. The last thing he needed was for his car to be spotted and something happened while he had Denim with him. It wasn't too many people riding around in a custom Cadillac CTS.

“Kuazie what's wrong?” Denim asked sensing he was a little off.

“Nothing. You ready to order?”

She nodded before telling him all that she wanted. When the waitress came to the table, Denim watched as he ordered both of their food. Shocked that he hasn't even gave the waitress a second glance she smiled.

“Why you wanted to come here?” he asked playing with the straw in his soda that was just brought out.

Shrugging her shoulders, she said, “I remember when you brought me here. It was only one time but the food was good and this is where you first told me you loved me.” she said barely audible with her head down.

Smiling he slid over by her lifting her chin with his finger. “Why you never said anything before. I didn't know it meant something to you to come here.”

“It does. You shared your true feelings in here with me.”

“I love you, Denim.”

Smiling she looked up at him kissing his lips. “I love you too.”

The rest of their time there was spent with them talking, laughing and eating. Once she finished eating Denim was ready to go. She was tired and just wanted to lay down after the meal she had. Walking out the diner hand and hand Denim had her head leaned on Kuazie’s arm. Feeling his body tense up she stopped walking and stood in front of him.

“What's wrong?”

“Nothing. Come on, I got to get you home. I need to handle something.” He said pulling her along to the car.
