Pregnant To The Navy Seal(7)

“Thank you. You are very pretty too. I saw your picture on the website and I was wondering if that was you.” She nodded.

“Yes, that is me.” There was an awkward moment of silence before she spoke again. “You are looking for a Japanese wife?” Holland nodded almost involuntarily. “Ah, that is good. I am looking for American husband.” She laughed quietly behind her hand again. “We are a good match then!” Holland laughed. “I am twenty five.” She nodded in affirmation.

“I’m a bit older than that!” Holland laughed again.

“I do not mind older man. I think is sexy!” Miko’s eyes glimmered as she leaned in closer to the screen. “I think you are sexy!” Holland grinned. “And very nice teeth!” She said as she smiled back.

“Why do you want to come to America?” Holland asked, unsure as to why anyone would want to leave the beauty of Japan voluntarily. Miko’s eyes grew wide.

“I love America! Everything is so big!” Holland couldn’t help laughing at the double entendre in his head. “What?! It’s true! Here in Japan, everything so small!” She held her finger and thumb an inch apart and showed them on the screen. Holland nodded, she wasn’t wrong there. Everything in Japan was small compared to Texas.

“Well, here in Texas, everything is extra big!” Miko’s eyes grew big again and her mouth opened in amazement.

“I would like to live somewhere big!” Miko’s face fell and she leaned her face in the palm of her hand. “But, I think no one pick me.” Holland frowned.

“I’d pick you…” Miko returned to her wide eyed state of happiness as she leaned in to the screen.

“You pick me?!” Holland nodded. “I can be your Japanese bride?” Holland didn’t know what to say but again his body answered for him and he nodded. Miko began screaming. “Oh my God! Oh my God! You pick me!!” Holland laughed nervously. “I come next week!” His heart began to pound so heavily that he could see the thin fabric of his t-shirt ripple. What had he done?

Holland waited by the floor to ceiling window. He had spent the last hour pacing back and forth watching planes taxi in and out, to and from the runway. Now he watched as Miko’s plane sat in front of him and in the pit of his stomach he felt dread. What if he had made a terrible mistake? What if Miko was nothing like he had imagined her to be? They had only chatted on Skype a handful of times before he offered to fly her out to Texas. He knew that he was a fool for spending so much money to fly a near stranger out to meet him. He hadn’t even told his friends or family about Miko yet and then here he was waiting for her to disembark.

The door opened and people began to file out, their carryon luggage in hand. Holland scanned each one of them, watching for Miko. He needn’t have worried about missing her however, because when she saw him first she squealed his name.

“Holland Golding!” Her accent made it sound more like ‘Horrand Go-ding’ but he couldn’t possibly have missed the gorgeous Asian woman running at him full speed. When she reached him, she stood on her tiptoes and threw her arms around his neck. “I can’t believe I am here, finally!” Holland wrapped his arms around her and took a deep breath in. She smelled like warm vanilla.

“Did you have a good flight?” He didn’t know why he’d asked such a mundane question, but it had seemed like the right one to ask. Miko pulled back from their hug, nodding her head.

“It was long time, but everyone is so nice to me!” Holland looked over at a few of the passengers still leaving the terminal gate, most of them were military.

“That’s good! We should go and get your bags so we can get home and you can rest. I bet you are tired.” Everything Holland said felt so unfamiliar, as though he were talking to a complete stranger. Sure, it wasn’t as though he knew Miko as well as he should, but he found himself talking to her as if she was someone else’s grandmother.

“I just have one bag!” Miko exclaimed as they began heading toward the baggage claim.

By the time they got there, the carousel had already begun to turn and Holland dreaded weeding through the hundreds of identical cases.

“Mine is pink!” Miko exclaimed as she began to chase the carousel around its snaking path. Holland watched in wonder as petite 5’3 Miko slipped through a gap in the crowd and lifted a large hard-backed case off the carousel. “I found it!” She called in a muted shout. Holland walked over to her laughing.

“Let me get it for you!” Miko shook her head.

“I can do it.” She protested but when Holland took the case from her hands she smiled gratefully.

“What are you smuggling in here? It’s so heavy!” He chuckled.

“No! I do not smuggle anything!” Miko’s voice took on a tone of sincere worry and Holland’s chuckle turned in to an outright laugh.

“I was kidding! I just meant that your bag was heavy.” Miko paused before covering her mouth and laughing quietly.

“Oh! Haha, yes. I bring a lot of things in case you want me to stay.” Color began to creep in to her cheeks at the mention of Holland allowing her to stay with him for good.

As they began to walk towards Holland’s car, Miko slipped her hand in to his. When he looked down at her, she smiled up at him and kept walking.
