Knot So Perfect Omega (Omega Match #1)(3)

“Hello, ladies. I’m Kane.” He held out his hand to my sister first, his brown eyes twinkling from the overhead lights and possibly because he was enamored by the mere presence of her. “What’s your name, beautiful?”

My sister let go of my hand, slipping it smoothly into his, her cheeks turning pink from the compliment. “I’m Kara Sterling. You played a fantastic game out there. I’m a really big fan.”

Do not roll your eyes, Kayla.

I wiped my hands on my jeans and then shoved them in my pockets as he released my sister and held out his hand to me. I didn’t take it because who knew where it had been? I’d read somewhere that over half of men did not wash after using the bathroom. I’d rather not risk it, especially because I’d probably forget I’d touched him and then stick a finger in my mouth.

I nodded my chin in greeting instead. “I’m Kayla Sterling.” I wasn’t going to kiss this guy’s ass just because he was a rich as fuck alpha with a banging body.

Kara nudged me, and I sighed, my eyes roaming to the seats outside the open sliding doors where we’d watched the game from. I yearned to escape this pony show. This pack was not only one of the best Alphaball teams in the country, but they were also a top pack in our society, running several profitable businesses.

“Twin omegas? Well, isn’t this something.” Rylan Abbott, another member of the Alphaball team, clapped Kane on the shoulder as he came to join his pack mate in greeting us. “I hope you ladies are enjoying yourselves.”

Rylan was a few inches taller than Kane and was just as striking in appearance. He looked younger and had a clean-shaven face, showing off his smooth porcelain skin, messy brown hair, and was sporting a grin that promised a good time.

“We are. We really appreciate your pack inviting us to the game and taking the time to meet us.”

Kara was always so gracious and proper. Barf.

The two of them moved on, clearly not interested in talking to us further. But then again, there were over twenty omegas to meet, and I vaguely remembered our chaperones saying they only had ten minutes. Although ten minutes didn’t seem like a lot of time, the pack would receive profiles and scent cards on each of us after this.

“I’m going to get some air,” I whispered in my sister’s ear as she was drooling over the alphas we’d just met.

“Kayla.” The disapproval in her voice left a bitter taste in my mouth. I just wasn’t in a social kind of mood. But was I ever?

I slipped away out the sliding doors of the suite, finding a spot I’d seen earlier where a column hid a cluster of seats from the view of the rest of the area. I pulled my phone out of my crossbody purse and opened the game I was playing. There was something mind-numbing and calming about solving puzzles and then building an estate.

I passed a few levels when my reprieve was interrupted. “We told you we didn’t want an omega,”

a male voice said, his voice lowered so only whoever he was with could hear.

I peeked around the corner of the column to see the head of the pack, Beckett Thomas, with a man in a suit. Both looked tense, but it was clear to me from how they were standing that Beckett was the alpha and the man in the suit was either a low-ranking alpha or a beta.

“Having an omega will only make the pack stronger so you can keep winning! All of the top teams have omegas except yours. This is how you take yourselves to the next level: champions.” The two men walked to the railing, their backs to me.

I slid back in my seat so I was hidden again just in case they turned around. With all the smells in the stadium and the ones coming from the suite, they were none the wiser to my presence hidden in the shadows.

“An omega will make us weaker, especially right now. What if her heat is in the middle of playoffs or during the championship? You don’t think these things through, Brian. It’s almost like you want us to be thrown off our game and lose.”

“That would be ideal for the omega to be in heat during the championship. You’ll be more aggressive. If you get the best of the best, then it will only help you. Elite Omega Academy has that.

They are well educated in how to take care of a pack both domestically and sexually. It will strengthen your pack bond as well.”

I wanted to gag. Sure, part of being an omega was taking care of the home and our alphas’ needs, but we were more than just a maid and a hole to fill.

“We already have betas to fulfill all of those needs,” he growled, the frustration in his voice making my spine tingle with awareness.

“You met Kara Sterling, right? She won Omega of the Year for four years.” Brian sounded like he was pleading now. “An opportunity to get an omega of her caliber won’t happen again. I suggest we put her at the top of the match list. I know it was hard to smell her perfume, but none of the omegas in that room smell bad, I can guarantee it. As your manager and coach, I insist that you consider it. If it doesn’t work out, we can ship her back to the academy and they can deal with the fallout.”

My stomach dropped at that. I’d never heard of a pack rejecting an omega after matching with them and taking them in, even though it was in the contract. It would be a major blow to an omega to be sent to an omega compound.

It was quiet for a minute before there was another growl from Beckett. “Fine, but when this blows up in our faces, it’s on you.” He punctuated his words, and I could practically visualize him poking Brian in the chest as he said each one.
