In Spite of the Bosset Life(8)

“Unni, go start the truck,” I said, heading to the kitchen. Everyone was wondering what I was doing. I went straight to the fridge.

“Um Koì, your wahrter broke. We need to get you to the hospital! C’mon,” said Nola, standing behind me.

“Girl, I’m about to eat. I know once I step foot in that hospital, y’all not gon let me eat shit. I’m about to eat this chicken,” I said, tearing the chicken to shreds. It was cold and all. I didn’t care.

“Girl, these last months you haven’t been hungry. Now you worried about us not letting you eat? You want to eat everything in the damn kitchen, huh? You so damn stubborn, girl,” said Nola. I rolled my eyes and kept eating. Unni came back in the house sweating.

“Mrs. Jordan, the car is running. Let’s hurry,” said Unni, grabbing her purse. Momma Dukes had already loaded Big Momma in the car. I was standing in wet jeans eating chicken, not caring.

“Somebody go get my phone. Also, the picture of Ace. Call Akamai and tell him to meet us at the hospital.” Nola wrapped the chicken up and walked me to the car once I changed clothes. I eased in the car, still stuffing my face.

“Koì, you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m okay. Hand me a napkin,” I said chilling. For some reason, I was now calm. I guess everyone else was freaking out for me. Nola followed behind us to the hospital in her Bentley.

I got checked in and Dr. Edmonds was waiting patiently for me. Everyone was so worried about me but I was okay. They sat me up in the room and got me comfortable. Dr. Edmonds checked me and I was three centimeters dilated. I was only in the early stages of labor, so everyone was able to take a breather. Since Big Momma was elderly, I told Unni to take her to Aunty CoCo’s until the baby came. I didn’t want her at the hospital sitting in no wheelchair all night. Nola made a few phone calls, letting everyone know I was in labor. I told her to hold off on telling Kash and Kori. I wanted them to enjoy they prom. After all, I paid too much money. I would call them once I was fully dilated.

“Akamai, thank you for coming. I know you sick of me,” I said to me and Ace’s chauffeur, bodyguard, and camera man. He was a great big help and very business savvy. He was dressed in a suit and wore shades like the secret service. I told him to come relax but he refused. He was all about his business. Akamai stayed suited and booted.

“No ma’am,” said Akamai with his hands behind his back next to the camera stand. I decided to start filming everything for Majesty in the future. It would be moments like this I wanted to give to my baby girl. I had two big pictures of Ace on both sides of me. Since Ace wasn’t here physically, I had to make some adjustments.

“Koì, why don’t you rest up? You’ll need all your energy,” said Momma Dukes, stroking my hair back. She always did this when I went to sleep. I obeyed and decided to get some shut eye. The hospital was awfully quiet and I decided to take advantage of it.

“Wake up Koì,” said Nola, smiling big. My eyes fluttered and I almost forgot I was at the hospital. I felt my round belly because I could feel light contractions. “You okay?” I nodded my head yes.

“I think I just had a contraction,” I said, trying to sit up. Momma Dukes wasn’t in the room and I looked around. I had balloons and flowers everywhere. “Where’s momma? Did she leave? Who brought all this stuff? I don’t want a whole bunch of folks up here.”

“No, silly girl. She went to go get something downstairs,” said Nola, rubbing my head. “You’re fully dilated baby girl. Everyone’s in the waiting room. We can’t wait. Everyone is here for you. We chilling. You know I got you. Whateva you want, you get baybee.” Nola was smiling and I too was getting excited.

“Where’s Dr. Edmonds? I feel like I need to push,” I said, holding the rails. Another contraction was coming. I looked at Ace’s picture and it gave me strength like I knew it would. I took the pain like a champ. I watched my contraction go all the way to the top and just run across. I prepared myself and blocked Nola out.

“I’ll be right back. Hold tight,” said Nola, getting up and wiping her tears. Akamai was quiet as a mouse as he stood in the corner. He looked so serious on his job.

Knock! Knock!

“Come in Dr. Edmonds,” I said, ready to see my life savior. We had been waiting on this very moment. I was beyond ready to push and get it all over with. I was breathing heavy because that contraction was big. I looked around for my phone and spotted it on the tray. I was mentally talking to my baby girl. We were gon do this together.

“I’m not Dr. Edmonds but I’m sure I can help you.” Me and Akamai’s eyes shot to the door. Akamai reached for his gun but then stopped. The whole room stopped, even my breathing. Ace walked over to my bed and laid down some orchids. Tears welled in my eyes and I couldn’t help but to bust out in tears. All I had been praying was for God to bring my husband home and he did. My baby girl could come in this world with her momma and daddy right here. “Shhh... calm down,” said Ace, looking at the monitors. My pressure went up and the monitor was making noises. I held my heart and tried to calm down. I covered my mouth and cried. Ace stared me in my eyes and touched my face. That one touch was all I needed. I craved that one touch for months and I got it. “Boo, you ready to push?” asked Ace with one tear falling. He rubbed my belly and let his tears fall. I nodded my head yes and wiped his tears. I was so happy my baby came back to me.
